About the Barnesville Antique Mall

My name is Brian Mayhugh and I manage the Barnesville Antique Mall along with my mother in Barnesville, Ohio. Everyone always wants to know the age old question; "How did you end up owning the antique mall?" So here is our story and how it came about.

My parents, Roger and Nancy Mayhugh, were antique dealers at the Barnesville Antique Mall and one day in the summer of 1996 the former owner Keith Ackerman informed everyone that he would be closing the mall for good in the winter of that year. A couple of days went by and my Father came home and told Mom to get ready for work the next day because he was going to buy the antique mall! They worked out a deal with Keith to purchase the fixtures and Keith's son purchased the building so we rented from him and his wife for several years. Diane, Tim's wife, also worked for Mom and Dad while they learned the in's and out's of the business. At that time I was working for a bank and did so for 2 years while Mom and Dad ran the store. I also worked the mall and went to auctions in my spare time to help out when I could. After the 2 years I decided to quit my job with the bank and make it a complete family business at the Barnesville Antique Mall.

With lots of hard work we changed a lot of things in the store including the removal of all the old shelving and replacing it with new wooden shelves, which I hand made. We have improved many other aspects of the mall to try and make it an enjoyable shopping experience for everyone. Unfortunately things took a horrible turn as my Father suffered sudden heart attack and passed away. It is now left up to my Mother and I to run the antique mall and we do so in his honor and memory. We have a lot of great friends who are constantly helping us in one way or another as this truely is a family and community-run business. If not for our friends, the community and our shear determination it's hard to tell where we'd be today.
